Sri Lanka’s recently carried out its first palmyrah-based products exports to France and the United Kingdom (UK).


According to a media communique by the Plantation Ministry, the registered export agency of Palmyrah Development Board (PDB), exported US$ 45,000 worth palmyrah-based products to France on November 29. Another export consignment was sent to the UK on December 14, though the value of that order was 
not given. 


In addition, the PDB launched a special sales promotional programme in collaboration with its registered distribution agency in England during the Christmas season, at the Spires Shopping Center in Barnet, London to promote palmyrah-based products from Sri Lanka. “Under the guidance of Minister of Plantation Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, State Minister of Plantation Lohan Ratwatte and Palmyrah Development Board Chairman Dr. Krishantha Pathiraja, the products of Palmyrah Development Board,  which had been limited to the palmyrah industry in the North, were directed to the export sector at a time when the country needs dollars. It is a leading step taken to bring palmyrah products to the world,” the media communique said.
